Bill Polomsky devoted his life to serving his country and serving the students in the Lee’s Summit R-7 school district.

He served in the United States Air Force (Vietnam War) from 1963-1967. After serving four years in the Air Force, he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education at Central Missouri State University. He began his career in education in 1969 in the Lee’s Summit School District as a fifth and six grade teacher at Hazel Grove Elementary.

Bill worked in various positions and developed innumerable programs in the LS school district. He is responsible for establishing the Junior ROTC in the high schools. He made a presentation to the school board requesting the establishment of the Junior ROTC program; the board rejected his proposal, so he made a second presentation, which was accepted.  Many students joined Junior ROTC, and many currently participate at all three high schools.

Bill also established the Academy Night, which served to inform students and parents about the various Military Academy nomination processes. Many students applied and were accepted for admission.

Bill was Director and Principal of Summer School for a number of years and also was the first Guidance Programs Coordinator for the district.

After Bill retired from the school district, he continued to serve the citizens of Lee’s Summit by working for nine years as a civilian service officer for the Lee’s Summit Police Department.

Bill passed from his earthly life on December 31, 2011, but his legacy continues.
