2024 Legends of Lee's Summit
Buck Langsford and The Langsford/Cox Family
Civic/Pioneer Category
The Langsfords settled in Lee’s Summit in 1877 on what is now Langsford Road. In 1934, the Langsford Funeral Home was opened by N.B. Langsford Sr. and was purchased by his son N.B. “Buck” Langsford Jr. and his wife Barbara in the 1970’s. Buck and Barbara operated the Funeral Home until 1999, when it was purchased by their daughter Sandy and her husband Brad Cox.
Buck served on many boards, commissions, and community organizations, and developed several commercial and residential properties throughout the 1970’s and 80’s. He and Barbara financed the building of several churches in and around Lee’s Summit as well as paying off the mortgages of several more.
Buck served on the Board of Directors for North American Savings Bank for 27 years. Sandy and Brad have continued the operation of the Langsford Funeral Home, as well as the legacy of philanthropic and civic engagement.
In 2024, the Funeral Home will enter its 90th year of service to Lee’s Summit.
