2024 Legends of Lee's Summit
Geneva High, Matt Sanning and Megan Salerno
Humanitarian Category
Geneva began her journey as the Director of Lee’s Summit Social Services in 1992. She has been described as “Lee’s Summit’s Angel”…always caring for the needs of others. She and her husband moved to Lee’s Summit in 1968.
Prior to 1992, Geneva worked 12 years for the Community Services League in Independence; however, her office was always located in Lee’s Summit. Geneva’s husband helped build the building where Lee’s Summit Social Services is currently located.
Geneva has passed on her love for the City of Lee’s Summit and its places to her grandchildren, Matt and Megan. When Geneva retired in 2016, Matt took on the LSSS Director role. Megan, who sorted through the soup during Boy Scout drives as a young girl, is the current LSSS Director.
The most recent statistics (from 2021) show LSSS served 2,194 individuals, and $1.4 million was given in assistance by over 3,000 volunteers.
What a legacy Geneva has passed on to her grandchildren!
